About

SRW metalfloat GmbH operates state-of-the-art plants for the processing of metal-bearing residues. The company is located in Espenhain, Rötha 20 km south of Leipzig and is part of the Scholz Group, one of the world’s leading steel and metal recycling companies.
Since our foundation in 2000 we have continuously evolved the depth of processing through targeted investments and the close collaboration with the Technical University of Freiberg and other scientific institutions. As a result, our various process engineering plant concepts enable us to process nearly all metal-bearing material flows in compliance with high environmental standards. With approximately 190 employees, we are one of the regions largest employers.

Our history

2000

Foundation of Sächsiche Recycling Werke GmbH (Saxon Recycling Works) by Scholz Holding GmbH.

2005

Commissioning of the industrial-scale processing plant for shredder light fraction in compliance with the TA Siedlungsabfall (German Technical Instructions of Residential Waste).

2007

Acquisition of the Franconian Kerscher Group by Scholz Holding. Since this merger, the company has been operating under the name of SRW metalfloat GmbH.

2008

Reconstruction of the entire Espenhain processing centre with a total investment volume of 30 million euros. Espenhain has since been one of the most innovative and largest processing centres for shredder residues.

2014

Restructuring of the Scholz Group and entry of Toyota Tsusho Corporation in the group of partners.

2016

The Scholz Group becomes part of the Chiho Environmental Group and thus belongs to one of China’s largest metal recycling companies.

2019

After an intensive development phase, the new plant for fine-grained, metal-bearing waste at the Espenhain location is put into operation. The patented technology facilitates the greatest possible value creation in metal separation.

About the Espenhain processing centre

The Espenhain processing location, accommodating the companies Scholz Recycling GmbH and SRW metalfloat GmbH, unites the complete range of state-of-the-art steel scrap recycling with shredder residue processing plants of the highest technical level on an area of 36 ha.
A logistics concept specifically designed for this location facilitates quick loading and unloading of lorries as well as convenient rail connections in short distance of the Leipzig transport node.

This makes Espenhain one of the leading steel and metal scrap processing locations in Germany and Europe.
